Welcome to the Tiger family.
New Student Orientation is all about helping you feel at home, connect with fellow students and discover the many resources available to support you on your journey.
New Student Orientation will take place August 15-18, 2026, with classes starting August 18. All new students are required to attend New Student Orientation in its entirety.

Additional Orientation Information
Recruited varsity athletes participating in cross country, field hockey, football, golf, soccer, tennis and volleyball will move in early to accommodate fall training. Athletics coaches will be in touch with more information, or you may .
ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½'s International Student Affairs (ISA) Welcome Week will take place August 11-14, 2026, just prior to New Student Orientation.
ISA Welcome Week is mandatory for all incoming international students. It covers a range of important topics, including immigration regulations and compliance, cultural adjustment strategies, academic expectations and resources, and community building.

New Student Orientation is intentionally designed to introduce new transfer students to ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½'s campus, community and resources.
Transfer students will move in on Saturday, August 15Â and will follow the new student orientation schedule to meet their transfer cohort and other new students.
Orientation for Fall Arrivals
8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
First-Year Move-In: Assigned Residence Hall Lobby
- Start your ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ experience by checking in at your new residence hall during your designated move-in time. Park in the unloading area, pick up your room key, and let our friendly volunteers help you move in and get settled on campus.
11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Community Lunch: Hoover Hall, Main Dining Room
- Enjoy a meal and connect with fellow students and families. Students can swipe in with their ID, while families and guests may pick up a meal ticket at the residence hall check-in table. Visit local food trucks for additional options.
Noon – 12:30 p.m.
Legacy Photo: Memorial Student Union Building, Front Steps
- If you have a parent, grandparent or sibling who graduated from ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, join the Development and Alumni Engagement team for a group photo celebrating your family’s ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ legacy.

First-Generation Student Photo: Memorial Student Union Building, Front Steps
- If you are the first in your family to attend and earn a four-year college degree, come together for a group photo to mark this important milestone with your family and new peers.

Convocation Procession Gathering: Students – Outside your Residence Hall; Families – Burkhart Walk, O’Hare Walk and Locust Street (Rain location: Green Center for the Performing Arts, Lower Level, East Hallway)
- Residence assistants and mentors will guide you in gathering for the Convocation Procession.
1:50 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Convocation Procession: Throughout campus
- Students: Join your fellow new Tigers as you process together toward convocation, led by your residence assistants and mentors. As part of this memorable tradition, you’ll walk through the iconic East College gates – a symbol of your official welcome into the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ community
Please be advised that the opening procession will involve high-volume music, cheering, and/or clapping. This environment may be challenging for those with sensory sensitivities. Attendees are welcome to bring noise-canceling headphones or earplugs. A designated quiet room will be available in the Green Center for Performance Arts for anyone needing a break. - Families: Line up along the walkways to cheer on your student.

Class of 2030 Welcome Convocation: Students – Kresge Auditorium, Green Center for the Performing Arts; Families – Hoover Hall, Main Dining Room
- Join President Dr. Lori White and the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ community for a special welcome and formal address. Families and guests can watch the live stream together in Hoover Hall.
3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Student Meeting with Faculty Advisers: Location provided by Adviser/Mentor
- Meet your faculty adviser, student mentor and first-year seminar classmates. This is your chance to learn more about your upcoming ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ experience before rejoining your family.
3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Family and Friends Welcome Session & Reception: Hoover Hall
- Join us for an informative session about supporting your student’s transition to college, followed by a reception to connect with other families and ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ community members.
4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Goodbyes and Departure
- Take a moment to say goodbye to your family and take some photos. Parents and families, please plan to depart campus by 5:45 p.m. so students can begin their orientation activities.
5:45 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Mentor group dinner and team-building activities: Hoover Hall, main dining room
- Your mentor and students in your mentor group will be the first people you come to rely on during your time at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½. After having dinner together, your mentor will lead you through a series of team-building activities that will help you get to know one another. Make sure to have your student ID as you will need to use a meal swipe for dinner. You also will need your student ID to enter your residence hall.
7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
How we live in the community: Your residence hall floor
- Meet your first-year resident assistant(s) and fellow community members to learn about the expectations we have for our communities and learn about residential policies. Spend time getting to know other students from your class and building community. Your first-year resident assistants will have opportunities for you to foster connections within your residence hall.

- Start your day with breakfast and connect with new classmates in Hoover Dining Hall.

Mentor Check-In Overview: Location Provided by Mentor
- Meet with your orientation mentor for an overview of the day’s activities and check in to make sure you’re ready for what’s ahead.
10:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.
(Optional) Worship in the Christian Tradition: Gobin Church, 307 Simpson St.
- Join ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ Dean of Students, John Mark Day, as he guest preaches at Gobin Church. To walk to the service with a chaplain, meet at Stewart Plaza Fountains at 9:45 a.m.
- For questions about local services, contact the Center for Spiritual Life at spirituallife@depauw.edu. Students not attending worship will meet with their mentor group.
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Alumni Social: Stewart Plaza
- Meet ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ alumni and hear about their experiences. Enjoy refreshments like boba, refreshers or iced coffee while making new connections.

- Enjoy lunch with your mentor group. This is a great time to connect and ask questions as you settle in.

- Gather and learn about sexual assault prevention. Learn how ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ supports a safe and welcoming environment for all students.

- Student-athletes are required to attend this orientation. Meet the athletic staff and learn about expectations for the year.

Black & Gold Student Initiative: Hoover Hall, Wallace Stewart Dining Room
- Students in the Black & Gold Initiative will gather for programming and community-building activities.

- End your day with a fun Casino Night. Enjoy games, prizes and a chance to meet other new students in a relaxed setting. Bingo and other activities will be available throughout the building.

- Complete placement exams for language courses as needed. This will help determine your starting level for language study at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½.
